Teaching Kids How To Keep Their Bedroom Clean And Tidy

Bedroom Clean

Your kid’s bedroom doesn’t have to be so neat, tidy and clean that it’s virtually uninhabitable and wholly unwelcoming, but you do need to try and get your kids to maintain some standards of cleanliness so that not only is their room safe for them to spend time in, but that they grow up with a sense of responsibility and understanding of cleanliness and pride in general.

Here are a few simple ways that you can help your kids keep bedrooms clean and tidy:

Don’t Make Them Do It Alone:

Give your kids a hand when you’re asking them to clean or tidy their room, especially if they’re younger. Gently guide them and help them with a few quick tasks so that your request doesn’t seem like such a mammoth one for them to tackle on their own.

Give Them Clear Directions:

Help them to understand what you expect of them by giving clear instructions and expectations, and this may mean sitting in their room with them until they’ve got a handle on what they need to do.

Make Sure Your Kids Can Achieve Each Task:

Smaller children may not be able to vacuum their rooms or make their beds, but they can put their toys away and lightly dust the furniture. Make the chores age appropriate and not only will they be able to achieve them, but they’ll be able to complete them properly, without you having to go in afterwards and redo it.

Compile A Checklist:

This will of course only be effective when your kids can read, but when they can, try giving them a list of simple chores that they can tick off once complete, helping to keep them focused while giving them a sense of achievement.

Make It Fun:

Bedroom Clean

Try to turn house cleaning or their bedroom into some sort of a game and they should enjoy it a bit more. Give them time limits or have them ring a buzzer or bell when each task has been finished; if this doesn’t work, give them targets to meet that can be rewarded with a small treat, such as watching their favorite TV show, using your iphone for 30 minutes, or something similar.

Use Storage Boxes Or Baskets:

Cheap to buy, boxes and baskets that your kids can throw their toys and games into after a play session, are a great way of helping them to keep their bedrooms tidy.

While you want your kids to keep their bedrooms clean and tidy, try not to make too big a deal out of it if they can’t always maintain your high standard, and remember that an untidy room never killed anyone (at least not yet!), and that cleaning services are always available if things begin to get on top of you, and your kids.
